The course interconnects several areas of twentieth century thought – philosophy of language, philosophy of science and poetics of fiction – in order to examine the radical changes that we are witnessing in contemporary arts. The course will focus on the claim that the common dominator of “postmodernisms” in the arts is that of a crisis in representation: a deeply felt loss of faith in our ability to represent the real.
