Course description

The Zionist Movement and the Jewish Yishuv in Palestine, 1881-1917

The course will deal with competing between the “old settlement” and “new settlement” in Palestine at the end of the Othman empire ruling, under the appearance of Zionism as a central national movement within the Jewish nation. As part of the course we will learn about the first aliya and second aliya – their characteristics and the confrontation between them. We will examine “Hibat Zion” movement, Herzl and the Zionist movement attitude toward the settlement; analyze the Baron Rothschild philanthropy function in the Palestine reality and describe the building of the labor camp as a factor in the settlement society.

Course duties: participation, exam.
