Course description

In the course, we will study the history of Kingship throughout Ancient Near Eastern history. We will get to know different models of kingship and study various textual and iconographic representations of ancient Near Eastern kings. The course serves as a methodological introduction to the study of Ancient Near Eastern texts and images. We will encounter a variety of ancient texts and objects, get to know different methods of interpretation, and learn how to utilize ancient textual and iconographic sources to reconstructthe past. Special emphasis will be given to the study of the images representing ancient Near Eastern kingship in its different stages.
