The sharing economy is a massive online social and economic phenomenon. It is disrupting old industries and creating new opportunities worldwide. This course will examine the sharing economy in the context of cyberspace and its sociology. It will examine the uses and abuses of the loaded term “sharing” and its various meanings: is it about empathy and fairness, or about commercial relationships? It will also follow the current debates on the nature of this new economy in the framework of “postcapitalism.”
