Course description
The course will introduce the students to the emergence of Latin American Popular Culture, along with its complex relation with the development of mass media since 1920 to 1990. During the course we will examine the most renowned manifestations of Latin American popular culture, analyzing the political, economic and technological processes that affected their formation. Some of the issues that will be discussed during the course are the link between popular music and the evolution of commercial radio; color television broadcasting, football and authoritarian regimes; telenovelas, politics and everyday life and Latin American Icons and popular culture.
