Course description
Definition and importance of thin-walled structures.
Plates: Basic assumptions, equilibrium equations and boundary conditions. Sample bending problems for concentrated and continues type loading. Buckling equations, buckling solutions, variational principles. Post-buckling behavior, effect of initial imperfection. Orthotropic and general anisotropic laminated plates. Shells: cylindrical shells, equilibrium equations, sample problems with axial symmetry, decay of bending moments. Donnell approximations, buckling equations, buckling solutions for cylindrical shells.
