Course description

The implementation of location tracking technologies is becoming a common technique for collecting information about the spatial behavior of people. The course introduces the latest developments that occur in the field of advanced location tracking technologies. In the first part, it presents the various technologies that are used to track location (GPS, Cellular phones, Smartphones, Bluetooth etc.). The second part focuses on the implementation of these technologies in empirical research in geography. This includes data analysis and management using geographical tools. The course will be based on lectures and practicals in the class. At the end of the course, students will be able to design an empirical research that involves the implementation of location information. This includes choosing the most adequate technology, analyzing and presenting the results.
