The course will deal with the relationship between place and healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The environment has the capacity to influence health in indirect ways by changing the behavior patterns of people and by supporting a healthy and vital lifestyle. The course will discuss relevant physical and social aspects of places including questions of spatial inequality. As studies show, using adequate spatial planning it is possible to encourage healthier more vital behaviors that will help to deal with modern health problems such as mental stress, depression and cardiovascular diseases. Toward the end of the course we will examine whether smart cities can and should promote smart solutions to health issues.
