מטרת הקורס היא לבחון את הנורמות התרבותיות התשתיתיות שרווחו בציבור היהודי בישראל בשנות החמישים הראשונות ולהקנות ידע רחב היקף על נסיבות חיי היחיד והמשפחה באותן שנים. במסגרת הקורס ייבחנו היבטים של חיי הפרט בתחומי התזונה, הדיור, ההיגיינה ונוהגי המשפחה והקהילה וכן בהקשרים אלה נעמוד גם על חלקה של המדינה בעיצוב חיי הפרט. נתחקה אחר הרפרטואר התרבותי הישראלי תוך השוואה והידרשות לדפוסי ההתנהגות של חברות מערביות אחרות באותה תקופה.
נוכחות חובה ב-80% מהשיעורים.
הציון בקורס ייקבע על בסיס עבודה מסכמת.
Course description
Eat Drink Man Woman: The everyday culture of the first Israelis
This course aims at examining the cultural repertoires of Jewish Israelis during Israel’s nascent years. Economic conditions, historic constraints and political development are the set on which everyday practices, social norms and mores will be portrayed and analyzed. We will discuss the role of the state in instilling discipline and social values as well as the role of various cultural agents in inculcating proper practices to the nation. The course proposes a close look at social and material realities vis a vis political rhetoric and national aspirations.
