The first part of the course will rehearse basic music analysis skills. Following this remedial stage, we shall introduce some advanced topics, including new approaches to the analysis of Classical from (Hepokoski & Darcy, Kaplin), introduction to Schenkerian analysis, and empirical or cognitively-inspired analysis (e.g., Lerdahl & Jackendoff, Narmour, Huron).
