Course description

Prerequisites

The course: Stochastic Methods for Industrial Engineering 0572.5225.01 (can be taken at the same time as this course). Students who have taken an equivalent course in another faculty or have a problem with the prerequisite can contact me.

Overview and Objectives

The resources in service systems (roads, banks, hospitals,...) are typically limited, for example the number of counters in the post-office, and congestion is unavoidable when the demand for service is high. Congestion comes at a cost: time wasted while waiting in line, being late and so on. This leads individuals to make strategic decisions with the goal of minimizing such costs. The interaction between multiple decision makers, including the service provider, gives rise to the economic analysis of queues and service systems. The goal of this course is to serve as an introduction to the modelling of strategic interaction between agents in congested service systems. The focus will be on the combination of models and results from Stochastic Queueing Theory and Non-Cooperative Game Theory.
