Course description

The Seminar will offer a close reading of Freud's major texts in which he developed and applied the idea of unconscious mental activity. Our cross section in the Freudian oeuvre will include both clinical papers and papers in which he applied his thinking to socio-cultural analysis. The second part of the seminar will be devoted to Freud's last major work “Moses and Monotheism”. Few texts in his oeuvre have proved as enduringly controversial as the work in which he applied the psychoanalytic tools he had developed over 40 years to an examination of the iconographic representative of the Jewish ethos—Moses, the greatest of the prophets.
