Course description

The American West as Setting, Theme and Value (BA seminar)

 

The American West occupies a special place, not only in American history, but also in its national self-image. Our course will be devoted to the presence of the West—as setting, theme, and value—in nineteenth- and twentieth-century American letters. Our readings will include novels, short stories, essays and historical materials.

 

Requirements: readings, consistent participation, 2 short assignments, seminar paper
