Ideology, Science and War in the Age of Extremes

This course will deal with the late nineteenth- century and the first half of the twentieth century, focusing on changes in technology, science and medicine; The Great War; the communist revolutoin and Stalinism; the rise of Fascism; Nazism; and finally the reshaping of Europe after WWII. We will learn how to analyze a variety of historical source, how to read academic papers; how to search for materials and how to critically examine historical arguments. NB, participation requires attendance, lost of reading and active participation in class discussions.
