Course description

Environmental Law – Dr. David Schorr

The field of environmental law touches upon some of the most fundamental and challenging issues in modern society-such as the relationship of humans to nature, the tension between economic efficiency and other values, the relationship of state regulation to market activity, and the ability of states to cooperate to achieve common goals. At the same time it is characterized by complex and technical norms, varied regulatory tools, and questions regarding the ability of the state to implement its legislated policies. This course serves as an introduction to the main Israeli and international environmental laws, to the principles on which they are based, and to fundamental issues raised by them. In the course we will study different theoretical approaches to environmental regualtion and critically examine the pros and cons of different environmental policy tools.
