The course is devoted to international migration phenomena with focus on immigration to Americas and Australia during 1840-1920 period, labor migration to Europe after World War II, refugee flows in 21 century, and immigration to the State of Israel. The course covers major theoretical explanations of international migration (why people move) and theories concerned with the integration of immigrants in host societies. During the course, we discuss the following topics: the political context of international migration and migrant integration policies, labor migration and the role of remittances, integration of immigrants and their children in host societies, forced migration and refugee issues.
