Course description

 

The objective of the course is to provide a comprehensive review and survey of the history, economy, and geopolitics of the Horn of Africa (HoA) countries.  The course will also examine trends and prospects in the HoA and implications to the wider region of the Middle East.  Relevant issues and current politics of the region will be examined and analyzed.

Learning and Performance Objectives:

By the end of the semester, course participants would be able to:

  • Understand the major physical features, resources, general history, and politics of countries in the HoA;
  • Describe and discuss the cultural, social, political, and economic dynamics of the region, and
  • Learn the sources for conflict and potential for peace, development, and cooperation in the region.

Guest speakers may be invited to the class.
