This seminar will examine the possibility of self-transcendence both through personal and philosophical testimonies of absence and immersion (Rousseau, Pascal, etc.) and through literary works that describe such experience (in particular the novel Friday by Michel Tournier). We will thus try to understand what is this “I” from which one is supposed to get out, how this self-transcendence can be effected and where it finally leads.
