Course description

The course uses a variety of critical tools from the social sciences and the humanities to examines cyberspace as a social space and how it changes our lives. The overarching paradigm used in this class is the sociologists Zygmunt Bauman’s concept of Liquid Modernity and Manuel Castel’s Information Age. We will examine the World Wide Web as both a social, psychological and emotional space on the one hand, and as a generating profit, commercial space using sociologist Jodi Dean’s concept of Networked Capitalism.
