Course description

This seminar explores the research of digital cultures and our intricate relationships with contemporary technologies from a humanities perspective. This is a relatively new multidisciplinary field in which different disciplines conceptualize the field through different cognitive metaphors (text, social space, subculture, technological artifact etc.). The seminar will introduce the key theoretical approached to the digital cultural field elucidating the contribution of each discipline such as history, philosophy, psychoanalysis, cultural studies, anthropology, sociology, literature, art, and various layers of critical theory (neo-marxism, postmodernism, feminism and queer studies, and posthumanism).  The seminar will afford students the ability to engage contemporary phenomena and genres from various perspectives in order to draw original insights for their individual research.
