Course description

This course intends to provide learners with information about the development of the Palestinian poetry from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. It is clear that in this type of courses a literary and historical review will be simultaneously made, to show the influence of historical-political developments on the evolution of the Palestinian poetry, in terms of style, form and content. Furthermore, the course will address the status of Palestinian poetry in the Palestinian literary context, on the one hand, and the Arab general context on the other. A comprehensive analysis of the texts from different modern periods will be made, with reference to the poet himself, his literary status and his contribution to Palestinian poetry in general, since Wadia Albostani (1888-1954) and Ibrahim Tukan (1905-1941), till Mahmoud Darwish (1941-2008) and Samih al-Qasim (1939-2014). The course will also address the poetry of contemporary young poets
