Course description

The course will discuss the evolution of competing theological texts and religious edicts dealing with Muslim minorities in non-Muslim countries, paying in particular attention to the struggle between the wasati and salafi schools. Studies will include introduction to migration studies and fiqh, readings of theological texts dealing with Muslims in the West, and analysis of fatwas from fiqh al-aqalliyyat on a variety of issues – from finances to sports and leisure.
