Course Description:
The course will deal with the thought of one of the greatest Arab thinkers of the twentieth century- Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (d. 1980). Al-Sadr was considered one of the founders of Islamic philosophical discourse in the second half of the twentieth century. This discourse criticized two major challenges that faced Islam: Marxism and modern science. During the course we will read from al-Sadr’s writings: Our Philosophy, Our Economy, and The Logical Foundations of Induction.
Course Requirements:
Participation in meetings, reading relevant literature, and examinations at the end of the course (100%).
