Course description
The course will offer a survey of the major aspects of the Shari'a and the Muslim legal system. These include: the sources of law and their nature; continuity and change in the Shari's; differences between Sunni and Shi'I law; the legal schools; the relation between the law and the legal system on the one hand, and society and government on the other hand; the qadi; the mufti; and some aspects of the the Shari'a in Israel, and its relation with Israeli law.
