Frege’s contributions to the philosophy of language have their roots in his logical discoveries and his Logicism. The reading course aims to put these contributions in line with their traditional sources in the foundations of mathematics, and the 19th Century sources of classical early analytical philosophy.
Readings are supplied in the course site. Most of the text can be found in M. Beaney ed. The Frege Reader, Blackwell 1997.
,Requirements: Attendance in lectures is mandatory, weekly assignments facilitate readings and discussion. Short midterm paper.
Grade: 80% term paper, 20% midterm paper.
