Course description

In an ideal world, we could have invited to our MA seminar in Indian philosophy the best scholars in the world, to broaden the scope and deepen the outreach of our discussion. But since we live in a world of shades (to continue the Platonic metaphor), we will Instead summon these scholars to our class through their lectures on Youtube.com. The program is to listen every week to a distinguished guest, to back it up with a selection of his or her writings, and to discuss the themes and questions they raise. We will listen to lectures by Arindam Chakrabarti, Homi Bhabha, Gayatri Spivak, Gopal Guru, Shlomo Biderman, Arjun Appadurai and others. This ensemble of lecturers will take us in different philosophical directions. Nevertheless, the connecting-thread (or at least one of them) is contemporary Indian political philosophy.
