Contemporary Indian philosophy is an intriguing genre of philosophy. Its thinkers correspond both with classical Indian materials and with classical and contemporary Western materials. This is to say the spectrum of raw materials in the contemporary Indian kitchen is broad, with a promising fusion philosophical dishes. We will read and discuss a selection of writings by Ramchandra Gandhi, Raghuramaraju and others. The heart of our discussion will be the (dis)connection of metaphysics and politics, and the (usual, but significant) questions of self-identity and freedom.
