Course description

This novel departmental initiative seeks to create a lively learning encounter between BA students from all fields in Jewish philosophy, Talmud, and Hebrew literature, and a variety of faculty members in the different spheres of Jewish Studies, focusing on the wide-ranging topic of love, desire and Eros.

Each session will be led by one faculty member, who will teach a text from his/her field of expertise, from the Bible, through rabbinic literature and medieval literature, up until modern Jewish philosophy. The students will also be acquainted with each lecturer through one of her/his articles, which they will be asked to prepare for the class.

Besides offering a variety of subjects and teachers, the course is also characterized by its interactive nature. The first half of each session will be dedicated to independent, guided havruta learning by the students; the second half will be taught by the faculty member. The course will be held in the Cymbalista Jewish Heritage Center.

Course requirements: regular attendance in classes and taking an exam.
