The course focuses on King David’s literary portrayal in the Books of Samuel and Kings, as well as on his reception exegesis. Close reading of the Throne Narrative (2 Sam 11–20; 1 Kgs 1–2) will highlight the literary design and exegetical history. We will also discuss secondary characters that shed light on David’s figure, e.g., Bathsheba, Abigail and Absalom.
Final assignment: Final paper.
