Course description

Syllabi

The goal of the seminar is to practice a research process on a climate issue, focusing on research design and methodologies.

In this course the students will integrate in organizations where they will be part of a new or ongoing research/project, totaling 40 hours of activity.

The activities with the organizations will enable a thorough acquaintance with the field and an understanding of the challenges facing the organizations.

 

The objective of the seminar is to study and practice the phases of a climate research:

  1. Introduce research topics from the climate field and on different spatio-temporal scales, e.g., regional, urban, applied climatology etc,
  2. Definition of a research topic and its objectives
  3. Theoretical background and review of previous studies
  4. Designing the methodology: material and methods
  5. Time-series analysis and maps production using observations and reanalysis datasets
  6. Building the results, discussion and conclusion sections
  7. Oral presentation: methodology and practice

 

Prerequisite:

Introduction to climate and environmental aspects

 

Tasks:

Active participation (20%), Exercises (10%), oral presentations (10%), Final seminar (including a poster preparation) (60%)
