The seminar will follow the rich tradition of penitential poetry in Hebrew verse, focusing on the rhetorical and poetic paradigms which this tradition has produced. Poetry readings will range from select psalms to late medieval Piyyut. The theoretical background will be discussed through readings of Austin, Derrida and Freud.
