Hope is the thing with feathers” wrote Emily Dickinson, thus summarizing in few words the yearning and suspicious attitude of poetry towards issues of hope. Following her lead, this course will discuss the various paradigms of poetic hope which are suggested by Hebrew poetry, both ancient and new. Readings of poetry will be accompanied by theoretical discussions by Ersnt Bloch, Geoffrey Hartman and others.
