Course description
Educational achievements are less equally distributed in Israel than in most other OECD countries. Educational inequality is closely related to the economic and cultural inequalities between families. Children who are raised by educated and affluent parents are likely to do better in school than those raised in poverty or by less educated parents. Educational achievements and educational inequalities are also affected by the programs, policies and practices that are initiated and implemented by school systems and the State. This course reviews theory and research on the individual, family and institutional factors and processes that affect educational inequality. Special attention is given to policies that can reduce educational inequality.
