Course description
Most of the research on civil-military relations has focused so far on democracies. This course is therefore innovative since it will explore civil-military relations in authoritarian and hybrid regimes (i.e., those that combine both democratic and authoritarian elements). We will explore, inter alia, the following issues: the difference between different types of regimes in terms of civil-military relations, the factors that influence civil-military relations and the phenomena which impacted by these relations, the methodological difficulties in studying this subfield and ways of overcoming them.
