Course description

Since the beginning of their cinematic career in about four decades ago, The Coen Brothers proved themselves as completely consistent Auteurs, constructing a magnificent and virtuosic edifice of World-view, with elaborate variations on a cardinal principle, which can be defined as "existential inconsequentialism". Man can achieve nothing at all no matter how much he tries or how clever he is. In a chaotic world, ruled by sheer chance, in a randomalistic causality (a nice oxymoron) which, per definitionem, could never be predicted, we lead a predestined life of everlasting defeat. Nevertheless, and albeit such a morbid pessimism, the Brothers have managed to contrived their idiosyncratic, carnivalistic style, and to expose with their resourceful rhetoric new vistas of The Absurd and original Ethics. This course is destined to apply this view to some of their newer works, especially "Inside Llewyn Davis" (2013) and "Hail, Caesar!" (2016).
