Course description
Seminar: Mobility and transport in an age of challenges
(It is recommended to take in parallel the course "Issues in Transportation planning")
Almost 95% of world transport is dependent on fossil fuels. The world population is ageing and increasingly over-weight. With the prospects for peak-oil and climate-change and increasing air pollution in large cities, our mobility must be re-thought and changed. Research demonstrates the adverse health effects of sedentary life styles which, to a large extent, are the result of the transport system available to us and the way we use it.
How should our transport system look like to deal with each or several of the above challenges, what would be the implications to our mobility and what policy actions are needed?
In this Seminar, students will conduct and empirical research on a chosen subject in the broad area of “mobility and transport in an age of challenges”. In the first term, the course will focus on preparing a research proposal – including conducting a literature review and establishing the research methodology, and in the second term the focus will be on conducting the research and presenting it.
Assessment:
50% - Final seminar work
30% - Interim submission
15% - Presentations
5% - Submitting exercises (on time)
