Course description
The course will be focused on the basic principle of soil formation in general and of Israeli soil in particular. The soil global definition amongst other earth components will be studied. The soil formation factors: climate, parent, material, organic matter, time and topography will be discussed. The course will give a basic background on field and laboratory methods to characterize soil and will focused on field work for soil survey purposes. Soil organic matter, mechanical composition, lime content and color will be studied in detail. The course will expose the world soil arena and will deal with soil identification, definition and taxonomy. Anthropogenic problem on soil properties will be also studied and the students will participate in several fieldworks and field trips to experience from practical view the soil body, it origin, development and influence on the surrounding environment.
Grade will be composed of: 10% exercises, 10% final report of the field trip and 80% final exam
Prerequisite course: Introduction to Geology, Introduction to Geomorphology.
