Course description
The course introduces the principles of weather forecasting. It includes subjective and objective forecasting methods, the principles of numerical weather prediction and the role of statistical forecasting.
The structure and dynamics of mid-latitude synoptic systems and their relation with the local weather conditions will be studied. The principles of weather prediction process, including: surface and upper-levels analysis of different atmospheric variables, fronts, satellite imageries, sounding analysis and thermodynamic diagrams.
The methodology will be exemplified on real-time weather systems during the course and on typical case studies characterizing the synoptic systems and weather conditions of the Middle East, the Levant region and Israel.
