Course description
Introduction to Social and Cultural Geography
The purpose of the course is to provide students with the basic theoretical concepts and methodological tools of social and cultural geography. These tools will be the base for future studies in geography especially in the following fields: city and planning, environmental geography, political and historical geography. The concepts and tools discussed in the course include: the nature of social and cultural geography, spatial terminologies (place, location, space, map); social terminologies (individual-society; self-other) and cultural terminologies (culture and space; global-local). Discussions on the city from a social cultural perspectives will be also part of this course.
