Course description
Introduction to Chinese History and Civilization

Chinese civilization has shaped the lives of many millions over thousands of years not only in China but in all the regions of East Asia. In our days, China is claiming an ever-growing role in the Western world and civilization as well.
In this course we will overview the development of Chinese civilization from its excavated origins in the second and third millenniums BCE and its evolvement up to the present day in the 21st century. We will examine the cultural, social, and political characteristics of the Chinese civilization and will explore manifestations of similarity and differences both within the Chinese world and between the Chinese and the outside.
