Course description

The course will describe the characterization of women figures in Latin American prose fiction. It aims at a presentation of the difference in characterization techniques of men and women figures in these short stories, as well as the difference (if there is one) between the means of characterization of female and male writers. We will investigate examples from the short stories of Gabriel Garcia-Marquez and Julio Cotazar on the one hand, and those of Christina Perri-Rossi and Liliana Heker on the other. We will try to investigate each of the writers' characterization of women figures, and to inquire into the ways characterization is influenced by the writer's gender.
