Course description

The term 'classical piyyut' stands for an immense body of liturgical poetry written in Eretz Israel between the 4th and 9th centuries. This course is meant to introduce this fascinating period in Hebrew poetic history through close reading in poems, critical reading of major scholarly work, and conversations meant to examine the relations of such ancient literature to literary theory of our modern and post-modern world.
