Course description
Key events in Israeli history: between history and memory
The course explores the values and cultures of Israel in a historical and cultural perspective that extends from the establishment of the state to the 1960s. Through interdisciplinary lenses, the course examines key events that made a significant memorable impact on the history of Israel, on the development of Israeli society and on Israeli Culture. The course sheds light on certain historical crossroads not only aiming to characterize certain aspects in Israeli politics and culture but mainly aiming to offer some insight to the nature of critical decisions in history. It also aims at following the development, evolution, expression, reflection and production of Israeli collective memory, and its leading culture agents.
