Course description

During this course we shall survey the typology of tombs and burial customs in the Land of Israel during the Late Bronze and Iron Ages, discussing in-depth the anthropological aspects of mortuary practices as well as archaeological remains and relevant Biblical sources. We shall put a special emphasis on the social, economic and symbolic aspects that may be discerned from the study of the world of death and burial in the Land of Israel during the periods discussed.
