The course will be devoted to the study of the urban space of the capital cities of Roman and Byzantine Judaea-Palestina – Jerusalem and Caesarea Maritima. A focus will be given to the study of the urban outlines, the government institutions, ritual institutions, public spaces, leisure and entertainment structures, alongside the location of the military forces and the necropolis. We will illustrate the way sovereignty was expresses in the urban space and dwell upon the processes of change in the urban sphere.
