Course description
Food, Society and Culture
In this seminar we will discuss the different aspects of human food behavior (including social, cultural, economic and political), and inquire into their interrelationship. We will read mostly sociological and anthropological studies which seek to explain how food preferences are shaped; which examine the complex relationship between food and identity (social, gender, national and ethnic); as well as studies which focus on contemporary food systems, on the globalization of food, and food movements.
