Course description

The course deals with the development of Muslim law of blood-money payment. It will concentrate on the way that religious, social and political circunstances influenced the nature of the law in this regard. A comparison to the attitude of other legal systems to this issue will be discussed as time allows. The course will be based on the reading of historical and legal Arabic texts, as well as of modern studies.
