Course description
The course deals with the impact of the folksongs on the language, the style, the structure and the content of modern Arabic poetry. We shall read and discuss poetic texts of the most popular Arab poets, with particular attention to the folkloric elements that were adopted, containing the style and structure of the folksongs, the language and the special motifs of the folk literature. Furthermore, we shall discuss some aspects of modernity in Arabic poetry and its contribution to the emergence of the phenomenon of adopting the folkloric elements in modern Arabic literature.
