Course description
We will focus on Zhou Dunyi's Tongshu (The Penetrating Book) with Zhu Xi's commentary. We will refer to ideas at the heart of the text, including authenticity, principle, movement and tranquility, unity and diversity, sagehood and self cultivation. We will explore the implication of ideas on commentaries and interpretations, and how they are applied on practice.
Grade: 40% active participation including two assignments. 60% final paper.
