Internship Course

Gender Diagnosis and Intervention in Organizations:

 Theory and Practice

 06075418

Dr. Zeev Lerer and Hadass Ben-Eliyahu

This course on Gender Diagnostics and Intervention in Organizations is a joint project of the Gender Studies Program at Tel Aviv University and the Next Step initiative, the largest internship program in Israel, which was established in June 2012 by the Rothschild Caesarea Foundation and is operated by Aluma.

In their work life, women experience diverse gendered practices which are perceived as the natural order of organizational life. These practices shape and determine women's working conditions, salary, organizational placement, promotion opportunities, professional evaluation, work-family balance, incidents of sexual harassment, and many more aspects of their work and professional lives.

The course will combine theoretical aspects alongside practical experience in implementing gender perspectives in organizations, diagnosing gender practices, and formulating ways of dealing with them. The course is designed for women and men interested in becoming active and influential agents of gender equality in organizations , either in an official role in the field (such as an advisor of gender equality, officer of social responsibility, or human resources), or as members of the organization.

The course provides four academic hours (2 theoretical hours and 2 hours of practical expertise).

Tasks:

• Attending 4-5 workshops conducted by the Next Step,  preparing students to make the transition from higher education world to employment world (some of the workshops will be conducted during the first semester).

• Internship in an organization (identifying relevant organizations and placement will be conducted by the Next Step coordinator), one day a week during the semester.

 • Attending and actively participating in 80% of course meetings (spring semester).

 • Presentation of organization's gender diagnosis in class (based on the internship).

 • Final Paper - Writing a final paper on the basis of gender diagnosis carried out as part of the internship. The final project is a personal task.
